The trucks were recruited by New England Open Markets, which was begun by Chris Masci. Having moved from New York City to Boston in 2003, Masci lamented the lack of open air markets of the type he’d enjoyed in the Big Apple. He pulled together a group of South End artists and crafts people to form South End Open Market. The food trucks kept everyone fed and the concept was so successful it began to spread.
