Five Questions with Brooks Young about the Salem Arts Festival


For three days each June, this FREE family-friendly festival transforms downtown Salem, MA, into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents. Now in its ninth year, the festival boasts attendance numbers in the thousands and celebrates all the arts: painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, film, new media, performance, theatre, poetry, culinary, and more!

1) Tell us a bit about you and what you do?

My names Brooks Young, I’m a musician and frontman of the Brooks Young Band. Over the years I’ve opened and performed with music legends B.B. King, Pat Benatar, The Wallflowers, Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band and many others also I’ve performed for Vice President Joe Biden.

Brooks Young Band has been featured on New Hampshire Chronicle as well as many publications. Brooks Young Band has also had their music on numerous radio stations and his song “We Were Young” featured on Boston’s Mix 104.1FM.

2) Why do you love Salem Arts Festival?

I love the cultural arts aspect of the festival. It’s great seeing so much local and regional talent from musicians artists come together.

3) What do you think the festival brings to the city of Salem?

I think the festival celebrates the enormous amount of creativity that Salem has. People know Salem as the “Witch City”, but the festival shows everyone that there is so much more.

4) What’s your favorite part about the festival each year?

Of course, I love listening to the different music but I also really enjoy seeing the art installations around the city.

5) What’s the one thing about Salem Arts Festival that people shouldn’t miss?

The great thing about the festival is that it is everywhere. You can find something around every corner so you won’t have to miss anything!
