NEWBURYPORT, MA — Written by poet and playwright Kevin Carey, THE STAND OR, SAL IS DEAD will make its world premiere this summer. Currently, in development at Salem State University, the production’s five-performance run will be hosted at The Actor’s Studio of Newburyport from June 21-24, 2018.

In the classic noir tradition, THE STAND OR, SAL IS DEAD presents the usual suspects--workers, vendors, and customers--and gives them all good reason to have committed a murder. Between moments of comic high-jinks and the interrogations that ensue, we get a genuine glimpse into the ‘80s working class and a reflection of a changing time. It’s a dark murder mystery comedy just in time for summer.

The creative team for THE STAND OR, SAL IS DEAD includes KEVIN CAREY (Writer/Producer) and PETER SAMPIERI (Director). Carey and Sampieri, both professors at Salem State University, have known each other for some time, but this is their first collaboration. “The cast is fantastic and I love what Peter is doing with the play,” Carey said about seeing his work come to life. “I couldn’t ask for it to be in better hands.”

THE STAND OR, SAL IS DEAD features many current SSU students and alums, as well as local actors and designers. The cast includes BRANDON BEACH as Ed, RYAN DOYLE as Jack, MACEY JENNINGS as John/Simone, ED SERINO as Sal/Vinny, TED SILVA as Nelson, PETER LEONARD-SOLIS as Pablo, and MARGARET SWEENEY as Katie. In addition to Carey and Sampieri, the production team includes M.P. CARVER (Stage Management) and CASEY LYNN ROLAND (Publicity/Stage Management).

Tickets are $20, $18 for students and seniors. The performance will be held at The Actor’s Studio of Newburyport June 21st-23rd at 8pm, and June 24th at 2pm and 7pm, and runs about 75 minutes.
