Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
Hi! I'm Renée Gannon. I've been an entrepreneur at heart for as long as I can remember, always creating something from scratch. I have accumulated over 15 years of experience in start-up and small business with a strong focus on digital marketing, media and content creation and integrated video production. I am a results driven person with a creative, big-picture approach to media, marketing and social. If there's one thing I understand, it is the need for a brand to be able to tell their story in a unique, succinct way. And with just a touch of that magical, out-of-the-box flair. That's just the Unicorn in me. After a successful five year run with my paint and sip business, Wicked Art Bar, I decided to form Make Unicorns Great Again (MUGA) as a way to harness my passion for media into one creative media and marketing machine. I love to connect to the many talented creatives in the region, many of which I'll draw upon for a specific project or client request. No dream is too big or too small for MUGA. I also love to cook, and when time allows, I like to showcase some of my favorite recipes / eating experimentation through The Unicorn Cooks special blog feature. In addition to cooking for fun with my many beloved kitchen gadgets, I also loves spending time with my wife, our friends, my family, going camping, hanging out with our four rescue cats and traveling, whenever we can squeeze in a road trip or two!
What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?
I would say every aspect of my job is creative (with the exception of the accounting, ha!) I enjoy it because I need that creative outlet in my life for expression of self and happiness.
How does your creative work contribute to the growth and stability of the Creative Economy?
My creative work supports the creative economy's growth and stability by helping businesses and organizations have a vehicle for which they can make themselves known and carve out their own niche.
What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?
I do a lot of volunteer work within the community and I think that creates a really synergistic environment for my business. That's one of my favorite parts about running a local business. It all boils down to your community and if I can help support that, than the community supports me in return.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Zoology.
