Announcement Of Gala’s Early Summer Show: Blue And Small Works

GALA (Galleries at LynnArts) is happy to announce their early summer show, Blue, curated by Caitlyn Yvonne, and Small Works, curated by Sheila Golden and Stephen Levin, As with past openings, both Blue and Small Works are sure to provide wonderful local art and in keeping with the idea of laughter being the best medicine for the “blues” we will have Patty Punch and Sue Bertrand doing Stand Up Comedy and to feel the depth of the evening we will have a musician playing the blues guitar and singing.

For the Main Gallery show, we asked artists to show us artwork that features the color blue or the feeling of blue. Maybe it has the concept of blue as sadness, water or sky. Our curator for the Blue show, Ms. Yvonne, is a master of abstract painting herself. Her colorful pieces are filled with emotion, sometimes enhanced by dazzling bits of gold and silver metallic leaf.  She was a natural fit for curating this exhibit because she, as well, creates artwork that is challenging to the social quo, exploring themes of tragedy and issues that sometimes lead to sadness.

The Small works show challenged artists to create artwork that was 8 inches x 8 inches or smaller. Ms. Golden and Mr. Levin are curating the works into the small gallery. They are long-time GALA board members who are artists themselves. Ms. Golden is a pastel artists who also paints, and Mr. Levin is a photographer who manipulates his images to become rather like paintings.

The Opening Reception for both shows will be May 27th  5:30 to 7:30 PM with a talk and meet the artist event during the reception. A suggested donation for the event is being asked at the door. A special Plein Air Festival is being planned for the July part of this show, more details on this to come – please see our website and social media for continuing updates.
