First Muster – Salem, Mass

The Massachusetts National Guard and the Second Corps Cadets will be celebrating the 380th anniversary of the first military muster to be held in America.  Veterans and militia groups are encouraged to join in the celebration.National Guard Muster

0900 Hrs.  Second Corps Cadets (CBTRY 1/101 FA),Second Corps Cadets Veterans Association, and  Glover’s Regiment form in front of St. Peter’s church.  Father Romero will address the formation.

0910 Hrs.  Glover’s Regiment and Danvers Alarm List will honor General Glover at his birthplace  and fire a salute (about 200 feet from the front of St. Peter’s church)

0920 Hrs.  The Second Corps (C BTRY 1/101 FA) and Second Corps Veterans Association commanders will honor its founder, Captain Stephen Abbot, by placing a wreath at his gravesite in front of St. Peter’s church. Then immediately head into the church for short talks on the history of the area, Stephen Abbott and the Second Corps.

0950 Hrs.  Above units will form up in front of the church to march to Armory Park to join remaining units in a memorial ceremony honoring North Shore veterans lost in the Revolutionary War.

1000 Hrs. All units  at Armory Park will participate in a brief ceremony, supported by a drum roll and TAPS bugler from the 215th Band and a 3 round salute from the National Guard and Danvers Militia. The ceremony will include remarks by  LTG Joseph Lengyl (if present at Armory), LTC Jeffery Holloway CDR 1/101FA, and Mr. Jay Finney Chief Marketing Officer of the Peabody Essex Museum. (Peabody Essex Museum to provide sound system, chairs, and stage.)  Fr. Romero to provide closing prayer.

1045 Hrs.  All units march to the Salem common to celebrate the First Muster with dignitaries and units who are the decedents of the first four units mustered on the common.  The muster will conclude with a pass-in-review.
