I recently had a special opportunity to visit the kitchen space in which Salem’s great Quinton Oliver Jones (1903-1999) created his fantastical paintings.

The Phoenix School, Salem, MA and Creative Salem brought back the Children’s parade and turned it into a parade party as part of the Salem Haunted Happenings Wicked Wednesdays initiative.
Once a year, at the beginning of the Salem Haunted Happenings Celebrations Mayor Kimberly Driscoll joins hundreds of little revelers in costume for Mayor’s Night Out. Dozens of local businesses offer special discounts and offers to residents and hand out treats for the little ones!

The Salem YMCA GreenSpace is a public garden run by the Salem YMCA. The Y hires local teens that work with volunteers to create and maintain this garden and school gardens across the city. Through the support of our community volunteers, the City of Salem, and generous donors, GreenSpace is able to provide free weekly produce to it’s neighbors.
Oktoberfest celebrations in Salem kicked off this past weekend with an overwhelmingly successful event at Notch Brewing. Giant tents, delicious cuisine, communal tables, games, traditional music and merriment were all in abundance as a new tradition in Salem has come to life on the South Harbor.
Over the summer Creative Salem partnered with the City of Salem, Salem Parks and Recreation and Retonica Event Lighting to host a series of “pop up” drive ins on the old Coast Guard Hangar at Winter Island in Salem MA. Here are a few highlights of the final August event in which we showed Raiders of the Lost Ark!
The Bridgin’ Gaps festival is an entertaining and educational platform for the local community to gather and celebrate the arts and the work of local organizations that are making an impact in the community.
As part of Salem Heritage Days the clowns from Alley 54 bring their magical talents to the Salem Willows. Face Painting, storytelling, performances and a grand clown parade make for a memorable annual event.
