The North Shore’s premier improv comedy group, “Accidentally on Purpose”, will return to Peabody’s Black Box Theater for a live performance on July 8. The show will feature comedians performing off-the-cuff games that encourage audience participation—the perfect recipe for laughter and fun.

The troupe’s seasoned performers come from an eclectic background, which makes their personal outlooks and experiences translate into highly amusing dialogue. Within the troupe, there is a doctor, an author, a teacher, tradesmen, and corporate executives. There’s also a self-proclaimed “old guy” who adds his own brand of humor to the games.

“I’m the old guy in the cast, so I have to remember that some of the dialogue I bring to the scenes come from a time [when] some of the performers were not even born,” said performer and producer Bruce Whear. “Likewise, they keep me fresh, as I’m not always abreast of the current stars and happenings of the last decade.

The structure of the evening can be best compared to the popular television program, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. If you’ve seen the show, you know the evening will rely heavily on audience suggestions, making it an interactive experience. Volunteers will also be called upon to come up on stage to perform with the comedians. Because the humor can be a bit more adult, audience members must be 21 years or older to attend this event. There will be a cash bar available.

Masks can be worn at audience members’ discretion; comedians will be unmasked during the performance. If you’ve been looking to shake off those post-pandemic blues, this event is the perfect opportunity to attend a live performance that’s sure to make you laugh out loud.

The show is presented by Silly Theatre Productions and Northeast Arc. The venue is located at 22 Foster Street in Peabody. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 8:00 p.m. Purchase your tickets here to get in on the action!
