Margot Tate & Carly Dwyer Naik – Intramersive Media
1) Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
Intramersive Media is an immersive game theatre company based out of Salem MA. We specialize in high production value, immersive experiences where guests can leave the realm of audience and become a part of the story. Each of our shows is a unique world which offers different levels of intensity of game play. We run events for first time immersive theatre players as well as more ambitious and adventurous spectators.
2) What do you love the most about Intramersive Media?
Opening nights are awesome. Once the audience arrives and the doors open it’s like well, it’s out of our hands now! Getting to watch an audience discover a world is really exciting. Also, hearing audience feedback after the fact. I will never get tired of hearing someone talk about how much fun they had.
3) How does Intramersive Media contribute to the the Creative Economy?
We are very firm believers in paying artists for their time and talent. Actors outside of New York or LA are frequently under paid, or not paid at all. They are expected to commit time, energy and money into a production for “exposure” and “experience”.
As actors ourselves, we wanted to found a company that not only produced amazing work, but allowed actors to make a living wage. We believe firmly that no one should have to suffer for their art. Therefore, when you buy a ticket to an Intramersive show you can feel confident that the actors are benefiting directly from your investment.
4) What’s your favorite part of Intramersive Media?
Running a company with your best friend is really fun – Entrepreneurship is hard no matter what, but we have a great time doing it.
5) What’s the one thing people wouldn’t know about you or Intramersive Media?
“Intramersive” was not our original company name. We went through 2 or 3 ideas before we came up with it. Our first few names were nixed, one because someone else had already copywrited it and the other because it was a porno website. Intramersive is a word we made up to describe the in-between of ‘interactive’ and ‘immersive.’ “Intra” at its Latin root literally means “inside of,” as opposed to “Inter” which means “among”.
