In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.
Cape Ann COSMOS media platform launched in 2019 to cover the Greater Cape Ann cultural scene.
The flagship newsletter, Cape Ann COSMOS Arts, Science & Entertainment, is a free biweekly publication, reporting on pending cultural events, exhibitions, publications, concerts, and lectures – happening across Greater Cape Ann. The COSMOS reader wants to “Stay in the Know, culturally on the Go!”
Our event listings focus on these fine categories: Visual Arts, Performance Arts, Music, Film, History, Literature, Science, and Revels. We cover the world class organizations, such as Peabody Essex Museum and The Cabot, as well as the smaller organizations tucked away in towns across the North Shore and Cape Ann. We are always on the lookout for hidden galleries and offbeat events. Our eclectic editorial range: cool to classic, hip to highbrow, edgy to elegant.
The COSMOS website, www.capeanncosmos.com, provides added content with culture scene coverage, short feature articles, and blogs for deeper exploration of the cultural heritage and scene.
As an independent, privately owned media platform, we operate without an organizational affiliation.
As of 2022 we have opened the platform to advertisers and sponsors.

I have been a lover of the arts all my life, participating to the max in Boston and New York – but with no pretensions of any talent of my own. I knew there was an art scene around the North Shore and Cape Ann, but it seemed ridiculously difficult to follow. I kept missing concerts and exhibitions, with some events still promoted only on posters. When my career in technology ended and I had a lot more time to play, I queried (myself) – wouldn’t it be terrific to have one source for all the cool cultural things going on? And not have to keep up with fifty+ websites and hundreds of emails. Since no one seemed to be publishing such a handy sheet, I thought – how difficult could it be?
One afternoon on the beach, while mulling the decision, a seagull whispered: Why Not Try for One Year? The name arrived with the next wave: Cape Ann COSMOS, Arts, Science & Entertainment Events List. The first issue launched December 2019 and went out, as a monthly list, to a handful of friends and family. Even though the pandemic launched two months later, I was in for a year. And I then began my deep education, learning the amazing history of the region’s cultural heritage…while I kept publishing and people kept signing up.
Now twenty-six months later, Cape Ann COSMOS publishes biweekly, reaching thousands of subscribers and followers. With a mission: provide a platform to publicize the creative, inventive, imaginative, interpretive, intellectual, theatrical, balletic people, and their events and venues, who constantly fill this rich cultural pipeline
What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)
As told, Cape Ann COSMOS is dedicated to creating an information channel between the community of creative producers and the various audiences, patrons, and consumers. Commerce is an important ingredient in a robust cultural community. COSMOS readers know what’s going on – and participate more.
What was the last book you read or film you watched that made an impact on you?
The E Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. “Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It”. All about the need for systems…
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
With two associates, I once produced a Grateful Dead concert, and lost money. Students at a local art school figured out how to counterfeit tickets – the dangers of printed tickets only! But the concert was wildly fabulous. The Grateful Dead arrived with a semi of equipment, stepped in, to our relief, and took over the musical sound quality – for the entire show, including other bands. Sweet guys and serious musicians they were.
