Meet The Member: John Casey Fine Art

In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.

I am a painter and sell my original oil paintings both online and in my Salem studio.

Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.

Beginning with my first charcoal drawing class at the age of ten, I was always fascinated with trying to capture and record the world around me. I began oil painting lessons a few years later studied with the same teacher for about ten years, before beginning a corporate career. After a 25 year hiatus, I took my first plein air oil painting workshop in La Napoule, France. I realized I needed to revisit and pursue my passion for painting.

In my paintings, I try to capture moments in my life that tell a story or create an emotional response. Plein air painting above all helps me connect more closely with my subject. The urgency and unpredictability of painting outside is exciting and consistently challenges me.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)

Paintings are a way sharing my impression or interpretation of a subject. I think this medium complements other art forms within the creative community. A community of creative people can build energy and provide momentum to help each other grow.

What was the last book you read or film you watched that made an impact on you?

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
