Shady Tree Maker is Deanna Jacome’s homemade goods & fine art
Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
The process of spontaneous mark-making and a constant investigation of color, as well as engaging with nature, guide my mixed-media endeavors.
My art business, Shady Tree Maker celebrates the intricacies of nature and appreciation of the small moments of happiness and beauty which surrounding us. I strive to bring color, positivity, and sweetness into our everyday through my Turkish Marbled home goods, and clothing, fairy wings, flower crowns, hand-bound sketchbooks and journals, mixed-media collages, and clay and crystal jewelry.
My fine arts practice primarily consists of mixed-media acrylic paintings which combine geometric and organic forms such as plants, flowers, architecture, and landscapes. Utilizing found materials, paper, natural elements, pieces of past paintings, collages, books and pastel, these works help me discover and celebrate inner growth, past and present experiences and the interconnectedness of us all, that we find in nature.
What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?
I am delighted to say that art is my entire life, as a full-time artist! From painting murals in cities and homes, to making flower crowns that adorn adorable children’s heads!
How does your creative work contribute to the growth and stability of the Creative Economy?
Since moving to Salem, MA in 2014, I have loved being involved in the growing art community. Being part of a group of artists whom I trust and admire is a great way to connect with others and make a difference in a community.
What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?
Walking downtown and recognizing fellow artists, previous customers and local art appreciators, makes me feel like I have finally found a place that my art is understood and appreciated. Plus, it is simply delightful to be living in such a creative and wonderful place!
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
As a true MULTI-media artist, I think a lot of people know me as one thing or another. “Flower crown girl”, “Faerie girl”, “That girl Turkish Marbles everything in sight!” Many are surprised to learn, that I am actually all of those people, in one! They especially are surprised that I do large mixed-media paintings.
