Moody’s Reopens Just in Time for Fall Decorating

by Joey Phoenix

Moody’s Home and Gifts reopened this past Saturday in their new location at 109 Essex St. in downtown Salem.

Essex Street Dry Cleaners originally occupied the location, but when the owner decided to retire earlier this summer, Moody’s were able to take over the location sooner than expected. It was an exciting development in a year wrought with economic challenges.

The larger space the new location provides will afford them the opportunity to sell more products from local and fair trade artists while also allowing for social distance shopping.

They have some innovative tricks up their sleeves to stretch that too, including a pop-up tent which will become “Moody’s Flea Market” on weekends, a sidewalk sale, and a one-way traffic shopping system.

“Because we have two doors we will be able to have people enter through one and exit through another,” said co-owner Kate Moody. “We’re going to have a lot of signage as well as a little table at the entrance with sanitizer. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and sanitize their hands before browsing.”

To make things easier for customers who aren’t ready to browse in a store, Moody’s will also be offering curbside pickup for those who place online orders.

Jess and Kate Moody are excited to share the work of local artists that have created products with a Salem focus. Some of the new items include Salem Zip Code pillows from Grace and Diggs, scented candles by History by the Sea, and Salem-themed prints from Fox Burrow Designs. They also plan to have essentials like socks, masks, sanitizer, and soap on hand.
